Malta and Slovenia discuss the Euro-Mediterranean region

Malta and Slovenia have held talks on the Euro-Mediterranean region and the involvement of both countries with a view to working more actively for this region. Both countries also discussed the immigration and asylum pact in the light of long-standing challenges at European borders and in relation to emerging phenomena such as the issue of Afghanistan.

Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo held bilateral meetings with President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor; with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Anže Logar, and with President of the National Assembly, Igor Zorčič, in Ljubljana. Together with the Slovenian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister Bartolo discussed the expectations attached to the Presidency of the European Council which is currently chaired by the Republic of Slovenia. 

Minister Bartolo held a courtesy meeting with the Slovenian President during which the situation in the two countries in connection with the pandemic and evolving situations in various regions around the world, was discussed. During the meeting with the President of the National Assembly, the possibilities of cooperation between the Slovenian and the Maltese House of Representatives were also discussed. 

Permanent Secretary for Foreign and European Affairs, Christopher Cutajar, accompanied Minister Bartolo during this visit, and also had a meeting with Secretary of State Gašper Dovžan, during which they discussed aspects of collaboration at an international level, especially in connection with the themes that will be prioritised during the Slovenian Presidency of the European Council.
